Our humble city now has a photo group on flickr, and it’s open to all. If you’ve been out in the McKinley area and have some images you’d like to share, we’d love to see them!

Because we’re not all geography geeks…

I’ve included a basic map so you can picture the general location of Greenway County and McKinley. I’ve resisted being more specific, like showing the route of the Greenway River, because I’d rather see other people supply those details so we can work around them. For now, it should be enough to know that there’s a bit of a bluff at the western end of town (it’s the one that appears in the background image of this site), and the Greenway River flows through town. Other than that, nothing’s set in stone until someone puts it there!

Welcome to McKinley!

McKinley, Montana, a city of about 30,000, has a history stretching back at least two hundred years. The thing is, McKinley doesn’t exist. All that history needs to be written, and you’re invited to take part in the adventure of filling the gaps.

The easiest and most obvious way to participate is to write a story taking place during the historical period outlined in the timeline linked above. But the internet has matured, and we’d be happy to post video, audio or other artwork depicting the storied life of this vibrant central Montana city.

We’re starting out, as McKinley did, with a wide open field. As of this post we have three entries that take place 120 years apart, but more are on the way. We’re posting them in blog format, which means that this page will be a mish-mash of entries not in chronological order, but in order of their actual posting. However, the category list at the right is broken down into decades, which will lend some organization to the proceedings. Underneath that, we’re also keeping track of the last five posts, so you can check in to see if there’s anything new. And since it’s a blog, you can always subscribe to our RSS feed (we recommend bloglines) and receive new entries as they’re posted.

Enough with this post. Read the entries we’ve got and start working on your own little bit of McKinley’s history!
